Zest creates the spring in your step and joy! Zest is fueled by what excites you, makes you enthusiastic and passionate. If you know what this is, do more of it.
The late American pastor Harry Emerson Fosdick said eloquently:
“Nothing else matters much; not wealth, nor learning, nor even health…without this gift: the spiritual capacity to keep zest in living. This is the creed of creeds, the final deposit and distillation of all important faiths: that you should be able to believe in life.”
How does one enhance zest for your life? Try the following:
1) Write down what excites and energizes you. Find out why and do more of these activities regularly to invite zest in your life
2) Write down what bothers you, upsets you, drains you of energy and why. Do less of these activities or eliminate them completely.
3) Do something that has long term value for you instead of just instant gratification
4) Find some joy in everything you do, even routine tasks, to bring in more zest
5) If possible delegate things that don’t make you excited
6) In the midst of difficulty, create an inspiring goal to work towards and put your energy in it, creating a positive thought pattern
7) Start your day with five things you’re grateful for
8) Exercise regularly because it will enhance your energy and zeal
10) Be childlike, curious of life and fun loving
11) Eliminate the Baggage – the future is not ruled by the past – don’t worry about the future, create future
12) Create an inspiring and uplifting environment at home and work
13) Practice unconditional love
14) Live a life of Integrity and principles
15)Recall the last time you felt amazing, full of love, joy and a zest for life. What were you doing then? Replicate that activity.
16)Create an environment at work and home which is uplifting and inspiring.
17)Make a list of things you love to do and take time to do them.
18)Ask your boss for things to do that are good for the company and you are good at.
19)Focus on thoughts that bring you joy.
