Practice what you Preach

A few weeks ago, I worked with a group of mentors in one of my sessions. Their commitment was to attend sessions once a month and meet the mentees twice a month. Some of the challenges they were facing included:

  • How to keep energy high when progress is slow
  • How to keep commitment level of mentees higher
  • How to handle certain areas where you do not have expertise
  • How to manage their multifaceted demands

 My recommendation for them was:

  • Develop ethos (trust with mentees) without which not much can be achieved
  • Seek help from other experts; you cannot be an expert at everything!
  • Manage time, self and energy well
  • Practice what you preach
  • Answer WIIFM (what’s in it for me)

Even though the your task is taxing you will be the beneficiary – helping others is the best way to help self.  When you go the extra mile to help others you end up being the winner! The more you give, the more you have.
