On Being Nice.

There was a time in my life when I tried to be too nice to everyone. One evening, during a conversation with an elder, he made me realize that this attitude stemmed from ego. At first I thought, how can being too nice stem from ego?

Upon reflection, I realized that to be true. My attitude came from being perceived to be a nice guy and to be “perfect”.

I have realised that being nice doesn’t always result in authenticity.  If I don’t like something, I say it. If I don’t like how I am being served, I speak up. If I cannot help someone, I tell them that I can’t.

By trying to be too nice, you border around ego, lack of transparency and lack of authenticity. Not nice!

Have you ever had an experience where being nice was taking you away from authenticity?
