Of course we are all interested in what we do and how our important our work is, so the tendency is to talk about ourselves. The other party will often patiently hear you however they are most often more interested in talking about themselves.
So before you go speaking too much about yourself, change the conversation and make it about them. You will notice their enthusiasm and interest in the conversation. When they walk away from the conversation, they will say to themselves or others “Wow, isn’t he or she a superb communicator!” However, the reality is you hardly spoke much; you just listened.
To connect with others, make it about them, not about you!
