We are living in a global village, in which everything that happens has a global impact. We can learn from one another, and we can use what we learn to benefit everyone.
When we give to others, we indirectly give to ourselves. When we hurt others, we are hurting ourselves. Our actions affect the globe, and the actions of individuals in other parts of the globe affect us. It is like throwing a pebble in the ocean — the ripple effect goes through it entirely.
The world is made up many countries and states and provinces, but the basic unit for all of human society is the family. Families are in turn made up of individuals. So every individual who is making a contribution toward others is making a difference in his country and, eventually, the world.
The late Zig Ziglar said it beautifully “You can have everything in life that you want if you just give enough other people what they want.” If you do everything in life with a view to benefit others, not only will you gain, but the world will also be a better place.
In negotiating anything in life, rather than focusing on what you want, concentrate on giving the other person what they want first, then position yourself to have what you want; creating what the late Dr Stephen Covey would call a win-win or no deal!
