Small gifts can have a huge impact

If we all play a part in helping to eliminate poverty, we can be successful. There are enough resources in the world to feed everyone. Just to put things into perspective: according to a United Nations study, every human being could be given food, shelter, sanitation, education and a comfortable life for no more money than that spent on annual golf memberships or one-third of the money spent worldwide on cigarettes.

Now I am not saying you should give up golf (smoking, yes). What I am saying is that if we give a little from the many things we do, or aim higher and share some of our success, we can attain what seem to be overwhelming goals.

In 1983, His Highness the Aga Khan IV, spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslim community, aptly said:
There are those who enter the world in such poverty that they are deprived both of means and motivation to improve their lot. Unless they can be touched with the spark which ignites the spirit of individual enterprise and determination, they will sink into apathy, degradation and despair. It is for us who are more fortunate to provide that spark.
