This week was our community’s New Year (or Naoroz). My son Tawfiq and I went for meditation before dawn and then to the gym for an hour. It was a great start to the New Year and a wonderful father – son bonding experience.
During the past year I had been a bit worried about my son – he did not seem to be very serious about his studies (welcome to the teenage world!) and I felt he was taking it a bit easy.
However, this year I see a totally different picture – he is serious about studies, became a volunteer team leader in the community, is the school soccer team captain, works out, and is very respectful. Amazing! What changed?
Frankly, I am not sure what was the trigger. We have kept our faith and deep relationship with him. Overall, he is a caring and gentle soul. He is also gifted in sports and studies. All of these have contributed to his growth. Deep down I believe that he has good models around him – his sister Sahar, his mum Farzana, his grandparents and his dad! At the end of the day, it is not what you hear that counts but what you see!
Having children who are on the straight path is a huge blessing for which we are very grateful for.
How about you?
