I keep losing hope …

A newsletter reader recently posed me this question; “I fail to be persistent in anything I do and I lose hope very easily because I need quick results. I need to change this; I have tried but I keep on failing. What can I do differently to make this possible until I get what I want?”

Here is my reply..
In the course of my work, I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most accomplished and successful people. And they all have one thing in common; all of them have emerged out of a quagmire of fear, doubt, and opposition.

The fact of the matter is that our desires and goals are simply not an end in themselves; they are existence’s way of goading us on and helping us evolve to emerge stronger and more true to who we are. Hence, never view obstacles as obstacles but as stepping-stones to success.

Persistence is critical to success in any endeavor. However, having said that, many people chase goals for years and years only to find that, in the end, they do not like what they received and are not happy. Or they lose interest after some time and keep changing their goals.

They may even find that they have been chasing the goals that others have set for them and living the lives that others want them to live.

I use the phrase ‘enlightened persistence’ instead. Chasing your own goals – the goals that make you happy and bring you passionately alive – is an important part of unleashing your potential and keeping up your spirits.

So, make sure you are chasing the right goals. Then your persistence will acquire an enhanced quality and strength.

To check if you are displaying enlightened persistence, ask yourself:

1. Are you chasing futile goals, which, even when achieved, will not invite happiness?
2. Do you prevail even when the odds are stacked against you?
3. Do you do a little extra to create breakthrough?
4. Are you focused and consistent?
5. Do you have the determination it takes to succeed?
6. Are your actions aligned to your goals?
7. Do you have an effective goal-setting methodology?
8. Do you make sure that your daily actions are leading you to success?
9. Do you get bogged down in crises or do you look for the opportunities those crises present?
10. Do you see the blessings that some losses create?
11. Do you attract success?
12. Do you keep the faith and go the distance or stop short?
13. Do you turn a problem into an opportunity?

How to get started

1. Define what your worthwhile goals are—things that you really want to pursue and are willing to go the distance
2. Ensure these goals will make you
Break these goals down into smaller goals, and divide these into items you can act
3. Create a road map from where you are to where you want to take daily and weekly action toward your
4. Remain focused and take complete responsibility for your life and your
5. Avoid the blame game and passing the buck.

Hope this helps you in your way forward. My best wishes for your journey ahead!
