Spring

Beautiful sunlit flowers in the garden.

In the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the spring season is the day of the year when the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving northward (around March 21st). This day is known as the Vernal Equinox. And in the Persian tradition, Mar 21 is when the New Year falls.

In some cultures, winter symbolizes death, and spring – new life. Trees, plants, and fields are beginning to turn green as new life emerges miraculously from the ground.

As we observe this emergence of new life, we offer these potential resolutions:

1. Create a deathbed message:

Articulate in one paragraph a summary of your life at the time of your death. As John Lennon famously said, “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” So, in this paragraph ask yourself, “What would have made it the life you’re proud to have lived?” Then, align everything you do (business, career, family, finance, spirituality, lifelong learning) with this paragraph. This will allow you to experience balance and congruence in your life.

2. Dedicate some time for reflection:

Ask yourself, if you could live your life again, what would you change?  Would you:

•       Be more focused on your core offerings and strengths?
•       Be more loving, committed and patient with your family?
•       Have a tight set of priorities?
•       Be more organized at home and work?
•       Look after your health better?
•       Meditate more regularly?

3. Develop the strength to bounce back bigger and stronger:

When you are hit with challenges, bounce back bigger and stronger! Life can throw your way whatever it may, but the impact it makes on you will entirely depend on how you respond. Don’t say “Why me?” Say, “Challenges are an opportunity to bounce back bigger and stronger!”

4. Count your blessings:

Whatever blessings you have in your life – be it good health, family, work, or friends – appreciate them, no matter how small they may seem. The more you do that, the more you multiply them.

5.Savour the Journey:

Happiness is not a destination, it’s a journey. If you are waiting to be happy, you’ll miss the boat.

Since you cannot change the past, it is what you do going forward. So, in this season of new life, incorporate what you would like to change in your life.

For instance:

•       Setting goals around each of the items mentioned above?
•       Reading your goals every night before you go to sleep and every morning when you wake up
•       Evaluating your progress every week and taking baby steps to improve, so that when you reflect on your life, you will have a different set of advancements to work on?

Remember, life at any given point is a work in progress, never a finished product.

This Spring, commit to savouring each moment and living it fully by serving others with your wisdom, time and resources. For when your life comes to its conclusion, you do not take what you have, but you journey on with what you gave!

At this point of a new beginning, I wish you synergy of Business, Balance & Beyond – creating success at work, living a holistic and sustainable lifestyle, and finding passion, purpose and fulfillment!

Happy New Beginning!
