Receiving without Forgetting

When the opportunity comes to pay back, you have to take it – no ifs, ands or butts!

When someone has done you a favour, never forget it. And when the opportunity comes to pay back, take it wholeheartedly. Don’t say, “I am busy today I’ll do it next time.” There is no next time. There is only today, especially if you have to pay forward or pay back.

The joy of paying back someone who has been extra generous to you is immense; you have to experience it to understand the depth of the joyful feeling.

Those who give wholeheartedly, most likely never expect to be repaid; their joy has been in giving. Nonetheless, they get a reassurance that there are people like them in the world who want to give just like they do. They don’t think of it as a returned favour because they have already forgotten what they did for you. As William Barclay beautifully puts it: “Always give without remembering. Always receive without forgetting.”
