Time for balanced living

A newsletter reader recently asked me this question: “I struggle to do all that needs to be done in a full day.  Between work, raising a family, taking children to all their activities and caring for aging parents, I barely get enough sleep.  How do I find time for balanced living?”

There are 3 simple suggestions to introduce more balance in your daily living”

  1. Prioritize your tasks – Understand that doing less is doing more. Making fewer commitments but more important ones aligned with your purpose is better than doing many insignificant things. Doing too much causes your priorities to become jumbled, leading to confusion and frustration. Hence prioritize your three important tasks in each life area and remember to accomplish whatever you choose with complete awareness and attention. Do not move on to the next unless you have completed the previous task. The quality that you bring to those few tasks will enhance your total experience, lessen anxiety and invite more clarity in your life. In short, when you attend to these goals first thing in the morning, the rest of your day becomes a piece of cake
  2. Practise the ‘hour of power’ – 20 minutes of meditation, 20 minutes of exercise and 20 minutes of reading something uplifting. Starting your day with an hour of power gives you a head start.
  3. “Undo list” – Eliminate unimportant elements from your life. If you can’t eliminate them, delegate them. If you can’t delegate them, postpone them. Then choose those remaining very important things in your life and execute them. In other words, execute around a tight set of priorities. Be proactive in putting important things in your life first.

This in my opinion are few methods for introducing more balance in our life. I take this opportunity to invite you to share your suggestions…
