In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as “being in the zone,” is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment of the activity. This is not necessarily about the activity itself, but how you conduct the activity. A flow state is achieved when what you are doing is aligned with your purpose.
Flow can be achieved through meditation, mindfulness, music, sport, poetry, learning, or volunteering. Breath, movement, and passion can also get you into a flow state. Benefits of “flow” include a greater sense of clarity, good feelings, happiness, lack of obstacles, and a heavy sense of concentration.
