Detachment!

I struggled with detachment as I am an avid goal setter – always setting goals for the year, quarter, monthly, weekly. How then can I detach when I am so attached to my goals?

I learned that the best way to detach is:

1. Be crystal clear about goals, taking daily action toward achieving these goals and letting go of the outcome.

2. Never ceasing to aspire, but in so doing letting joy be at the core of the aspiration and perspiration toward that goal!

This way, one is not deferring one’s joy only upon completing the goal, but rather having joy _all the way_ through the process of achievement.

Hazrat Ali sums it up beautifully:

“Detachment is not that you should own nothing. But that, nothing should own you.”
