From Discomfort to Success

Q_challenge8Being in discomfort can either be seen as a pain or a springboard for success. It depends on you. But, most often when you are uncomfortable you naturally turn to changing that position because you aren’t happy with the status quo. This creates the impetus to take action.

On the other hand, when you are comfortable you can easily become satisfied with the status quo. This can potentially lead to mediocrity.

Therefore, do not view discomfort negatively, but rather use it as motivation for change – and change for the better.

To get to the next level of success, you need to leave your comfort zone; learn new things, and seize opportunities. You have to make yourself accountable for rising to that next level or find a mentor/coach who can help you take accountability.

Your Engine!

What do you deem to be your priority?

If your priority is your physique then you will have a good physique.

If your priority is wealth, you will attract more wealth.

If your priority is family, you will have better family relationships.

If your priority is service & spirituality, you will attract more service & spirituality.

When you prioritize spirituality & service, you create the foundation of abundance in wealth, health and family. Why? Because spirituality is the ‘engine’ which gets the entire being in motion.

Counting your Blessings!

River deep in mountain forest. Nature composition.

No matter what your circumstances, you always have something to be grateful for, however small or insignificant it may seem.

When we focus on what we already have, we expand our gifts. Jalaluddin Rumi, the Sufi mystic, once remarked, ―When we see a clean white cloth with a black dot, what do we see? If we focus on the black dot it begins to look much bigger than it really is.

When we count our blessings, we feel good about ourselves. When we feel good about ourselves, we tend to treat others around us better. When we are good to others, we feel even better about ourselves.

Thus, life-affirming positive energy encircles us, and we transform our lives with kindness and generosity.

While it may be part of our vision to strive for the stars, being grateful for what we already have started, fills us with positive energy.

At work, when you appreciate the people you have, you begin to notice how much value they add to your organization. If you are constantly finding fault with them, you will actually see things worse than they are. I am not discounting that you may need to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of your organization. However, starting from what is work gets you in the right direction.

When you count your blessings, your blessings multiply. When you count your problems, your problems multiply.

I was away for the weekend in Mombasa, Kenya with a close friend/client at an “out of this world resort” which he owns and calls Zawadi (Swahili word for gift).

We decided not to wear a watch or use the Internet. We were there for 1.5 days but it seemed like 1.5 months! When you are near nature (ocean, birds, spectacular view) and with special people, the clock stops.

We had several intense discussions about spirituality, business, and family in different amazing settings within the resort. We swam in the ocean, slept under the sky, took power naps around breathtaking views, drank madafu (coconut water), ate lobsters, crabs, fish, and prawns.

I had gone to Zawadi after spending four full days with 20 branch managers of a major Bank, so I was exhausted when I reached there. However, after 1.5 days, I felt energized, inspired and uplifted!

When you are in the company of special friends in a wonderful setting, you feel rejuvenated!

It was a real Zawadi (gift) for me and an experience which will be in my memory forever!

The more you give to family, the better the relationships at home. This unity invites love and harmony.

The more you give to colleagues, the better the camaraderie at work. This fellowship enhances your productivity and performance.

The more you give to customers, the better the loyalty you build, and ultimately, a better bottom line.

The more you give to the community, the better the environment you create for you and your family to live in.

The more time you give to others, the less time you need for getting things done, mainly because of the help and support others will reciprocate.

In addition, when you truly give, you unleash your creativity; inspire innovation, and tap into your potential.

If you cannot give money – give love, hope, laughter, skills, wisdom, ideas, attention, and a listening ear.

Also, when you are gentle and give to others, you are generally gentle and give to yourself.

The benefits of giving range from security and empowerment of better relationships to good health, longer life, and happiness.

Ask yourself:

– If you are blessed with insights, wisdom, and health—what is your giving responsibility?

– If you are blessed with a loving family—what is your giving responsibility?

– If you are blessed with wealth and success—what is your giving responsibility?

In closing, remember – to those whom more is given, more is expected in terms of contribution!
